NEWFOUNDLAND 80a 1897 1c DEEP GREEN QUEEN VICTORIA ROYAL FAMILY ISSUE VF MPH
One cent, deep green shade, Queen Victoria shown in "widow's weeds" at her orders to honor the memory of her late husband Prince Albert who passed away in 1861. Stamp is from the Royal Family issue of 1897-1901, engraved, no watermark, perf. 12.0x12.0. Printed by the American Bank Note Company of New York, on relatively heavy weight, white wove paper with horizontal mesh, white (almost colorless) gum. This very popular issue includes some of the finest engraved stamps ever produced, anywhere. Excellent color and appearance, very well centered within balanced margins. Approximately 50% of original gum disturbed by previous hinging, hinge remnant. Few shortish perfs here and there mentioned for the record.
