This listing is for an extremely rare piece of vintage / antique equipment; “The Nacometer” an Automatic Code Transmitter specially made for the National Radio Institute in Washington DC. These devices are quite rare to begin with- this one is in great condition; The spring motor fully functions, both reels of paper turn freely, and the code transmitter pieces both function making the classic morse code noises- the only thing not tested is the wires themselves and the electrics. This is an excellent piece for collectors as is or to tinker with, decor / display, gifting, museums / educational facilities, and more!

It is an extremely interesting piece, with multiple technologies converging in one machine The original version shown uses a hand-wound spring driven motor with a centrifugal governor and were supplied with American Morse Code paper tapes with short holes for dots and long holes for dashes. ( According to my research- Later models used electric motor drives and included a battery powered and later AC line powered oscillator to produce tones for training radio operators. ) This motor is in great working condition. It has been properly oiled and externally greased, and from the looks of it the motor springs are still in good shape. The original manual allegedly said "if one cannot learn to become a skilled operator with the consistent use of the machine and instruction, they had as well give up the idea"

On the top deck, the device toward the front is a key that makes and breaks a set of contacts by passing over holes in the paper tapes. I believe these devices were trainers to learn copying Morse code. The speed could be varied, and there was a selection of tapes that could be played. (This one comes with one tape- it has been repaired at some point in one small spot- but I believe it would not impede the usage). The case is in good condition. The faux leather material it is covered with has some exterior wear, as is normal for a piece this age, but no major damage. It has some speckling on the front exterior face, as if it was too close to a paint area, but I believe this could clean up. The deck is some sort of thick early bakelite or plastic, it is uncracked and in good shape as well.

Thank you for your consideration. Comes as shown, please see photos for details and measurements. Comes from a large estate with many spring powered and clockwork wonders, please check back to see my other upcoming listings!
