A superb
and rare photo of the Harley-Davidson
Duo Glide – FL –
In 1948 H-D
introduced the OHV Panhead engine model series. The Hydra Glide, which followed
a year later in 1949, also featured the new Panhead engine but it had something
completely new to offer: the Hydra Glide hydraulic suspension
front fork. In 1958 the Hydra Glide was
succeeded by the Duo Glide, which is shown on the photo that the
winner of this auction will receive. It
is a gorgeous photo, showing an unusual but pretty scene of the first Duo
Glide.
Unlike the
Hydra Glide, the Duo Glide did not have a rigid rear end. It featured however a swingarm with two
hydraulic shock absorbers. This wasn’t
the only novelty on the Duo Glide, it also featured a hydraulic rear brake, a
new oil tank, and engine wise it received a stronger transmission and clutch
and a number of other small modifications like stiffer valve springs and larger
cylinder head fins.
This is a
very nice and very rare photo that reflects a wonderful era of Harley ‘s
motorcycle history in a wonderful way. This is your rare chance to
