A gorgeous hand-colored copperplate engraved map of "Des Possessions Francois Aujourd'hui sous la Domination Angloises" done in 1791 by the cartographer Jean Baptiste Louis Clouet. The map features "Louisiane", "Floride", "Mariland", "Conecticut", etc. "Louisiane", of course, was what just about eveything west of the Mississippi was called. This is not a Clouet reproduction; it is an ORIGINAL 18th century map.

This map is quite large, measuring a full 23 by 16 inches. It features a gorgeous descriptive scroll bordering the map itself. Save for some light age spotting at the base. the map is in very good condition. The original hand-coloring is still present and the paper is of a very thick stock. Copperplate engravings offer some of the finest examples of the engravers art of map making. This happens because the lines are so finely wrought. The engraving is actually very crips, intricate, and clear. It is in very good condition.
