These are NOT generic photos - you're looking at the actual rock you will receive when ordering! And all orders are mailed out within one business day, cost included! Due to its size and weight, the rock in this listing will ship via UPS Ground Service and will take slightly longer to arrive compared to our other listings.

Before getting into the details of this rock, please take a look at all the photos. We normally show our rocks in different orientations, to give you a better feel for how it might look in your setting. Note that this rock stood in each orientation without the aid of any prop! I can't remember the last time we came across a rock this size with that capability. And yes, it's a big rock - with that natural lean (again, no prop), it measures 17" across its longest axis, stands 13½" tall, and weighs in at over 23 lbs! In the right setting, it would make an incredible lava tower!

But those are only a few of the characteristics that make this incredible find unique. Depending on the point of view, you can see long, deep crevices running in parallel across one side, or bands of pockmarks that run right through the rock. But the primary focal point is that entirely separate rock, embedded in its side during the eruption process. Time has eroded away the main rock, enough where the harder, denser hitchhiker now has a "cabin" of its own. Overall, we consider this specimen worthy of being called "museum quality". It would make an incredible addition to any collection.

Hand-picked directly from the Springerville Volcanic Field, near the White Mountains of east-central Arizona, this unique rock originated from one of the over 400 volcanoes that were active between 300,000 and 1.5 million years ago. These volcanoes didn't produce lava flows ... instead, magma and other material was thrown into the air with explosive force, hurling through the air for miles! This rock was still somewhat molten when it caught up to the smaller rock, which had already cooled, enabling it to envelope it whole!

We don't take you for granite at Arizona Lava Rocks! Our listings don't start out in a pile in some yard! Each rock is individually gathered. This one was picked off the ground because something about it caught our eye. Again, this listing is for the specific rock you see in the accompanying photos. Our inventory is constantly changing - please check out our other listings.
