Description: This print originates from: Francois Robichon de la Guerniere's 'Ecole de Cavalerie. Contenant la connoissance, l'instruction, et la conservation du cheval.' (Paris: Collombat, 1733). This is an important French book on the training and riding of the horse, detailing equitation, veterinary treatment, and general horsemanship. It has become an important text for the Spanish Riding School of Vienna.
Artists and Engravers: Engraved by N. Tardieu after Ch. Parrocel. Nicolas Henri Tardieu (1674-1749) also called 'Tardieu the elder' was a prominent French engraver, known for his sensitive reproductions of Antoine Watteau's paintings. He was appointed graveur du roi (King's Engraver) to King Louis XV of France. Charles Parrocel (1688-1752) was a French painter and engraver, specialised in battle and hunting scenes.

Subject: Antique print, titled: Alures Artificielles - Airs pres de terre: Le Passage, Le Galopade, La Volte a droite, La Piroutte a Gauche, Le Terre-a terre, Le Mezair. It shows: various 'artificial' horse gaits and on-ground airs: Passage, Canter, Right volte, Left pirouette, Terre a Terre and Mezair.
Condition: Very good, given age. Two folds, as issued. Left edge minimally uneven from binding, bottom left edge paper loss (backed with contemporary paper and acid-free archival tape). General age-related toning and/or occasional minor soiling from handling. Please study scan carefully.
