 Description of the Plant

Tree, 3- 8 m tall. Leafy branches 0.7- 2.4 mm thick, pubescent or glabrate. Leaf blade 5- 17 cm long, 2- 5.5 cm wide, narrowly elliptical, oblong or lanceolate, obtuse or rounded at the base, acute or obtuse at the apex. Flowers mostly few in leaf- opposed cymes. Pedicle 10- 20 mm long, glabrous or pubescent. Ripe fruit 5- 10 cm in diameter, spherical or ovoid, greenish- yellow. Seeds about 14 mm long, 8 mm wide, 5 mm thick, blackish- brown, with a firm testa and a rudimentary rail.

Growing

Trees in the landscape should be fertilized every three to four months with a citrus or palm type fertilizer containing good levels of micronutrients. In highly alkaline soil deficiencies may develop that require nutritional sprays to correct.

Plant 2 seeds per 3 inch pot containing at least 4 or 5 inches of a good planting mix. Then cover the seeds with another 1/2" of compost. Be careful to keep the pot damp but never wet.

Try to maintain a steady temperature between 15ºc to 20ºc. Germination should take between 2 to 6 weeks.  Discard the weaker seedlings when they have about 4 - 6 true leaves and transplant into 6 inch containers
