GB -  £5 - ISSUED DOUGLAS, ISLE OF MAN - TRAVELLER'S CHEQUE - BARCLAY'S BANK LIMITED  Dated 1960 - Used in Switzerland, on 22 AOÛT 1960 - superb a/Unc condition.

This old Barclay's Bank Traveller's cheque is in Dark Brown on a lightish Multicoloured background on the face. The reverse has a light Pinkish background which consists of repeated parabolic wavy lines throughout.

The face has the denomination as £5 at the top right corner. Just below this, at the centre of the right hand side, is an oval, raised embossed stamp with a Crown and the words 'TWO PENCE' within, this was the Poundage charge (Tax) levied on traveller's cheques in the UK at the time'.

The signature of the purchaser of this cheque appears at the top left on the face of the note, signed in Biro upon issue. The holder also signed the cheque at the time of encashment in Switzerland, at the bottom left, using a fountain pen.

The Serial number is in Black at the top centre KG.33363. The cheque has a number of handstamps on it on the face and the reverse.

On the face, both the date of issue 18 AUG 1960 and the date of encashment 9 SEP 1960 appear at the top right hand side, handstamped in Red with the Paid stamp applied just under the issue date. Stamped over these in Black is a further hand stamp in Black  of  'BARCLAY'S BANK LTD - Chief Foreign Branch'  This also has the words 'RECEIVED FOR AN EXTERNAL ACCOUNT'. Below this is the handstamp of the Swiss National Bank, the serial number on the stamp is 257130.

The reverse is otherwise blank except for four handstamps applied at the time of 'use/purchase/issue, there is an oblong handstamp in Red applied at the time of issue stating 'VALID FOR NEGOTIATION ANYWHERE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD'. There is a date stamp of '-9 Sep 1960' at the top right on the reverse, this was probably the date the cheque arrived back at Barclays Foreign Branch in London. There is also a handstamp which  relates to the Swiss National Bank handstamp on the face, this is from the CFF - Chemins de Fers Fédéraux Suisses -  (The Swiss National Railway Company), who accepted the cheque in payment, presumably the cheque was used to buy a Train ticket. This stamp is dated 22 Août 1960. Additionally there is another Stamp from Barclay's stating -'Remitted for collection through BARCLAYS BANK LTD Chief Foreign Branch - Banque Nationale Suisse'.

This is a lovely cheque which has seen minimal handling,  it has a single tiny corner crease at the top left, it still has its original sheen and is in crisp condition, therefore it grades almost UNC.

I ALWAYS COMBINE POSTAGE COSTS ON MULTIPLE WINS _ PLEASE DO NOT PAY FOR ITEMS UNTIL YOU RECEIVE MY COMBINED POSTAGE INVOICE IF YOU ARE BIDDING ON MORE THAN ONE ITEM!

IMPORTANT - All my items are sent to the UK from my current location in Italy by Certificated Airmail for safety reasons, and INTERNATIONAL BUYERS, please note that any item or group of items which totals more than £30 will have to be sent by insured delivery for the safety and security of your item - there can be I am afraid no exceptions to this.

Please note that as a matter of course I do not now post to some countries where the postal system seems to be unreliable. Therefore those buyers from RUSSIA, CHINA, INDIA, BANGLADESH, PAKISTAN, INDONESIA, MALAYSIA, VIETNAM, SAUDI ARABIA, MEXICO & CHILE who wish to bid on my notes will have to contact me first and be aware that any items won will be sent by chargeable INSURED TRACKABLE postage. This is because at least 30% of items sent to buyers in these locations in the last few years for some reason do not arrive. The cost of insurance will add about £10 to the cost of the item.

I always combine postage and shipping on more than one item won.  If you think my postage and shipping charges are unreasonable then please contact me before you make a bid. For full details of shipping and  postage costs to UK and other European destinations and all other addresses Worldwide, please refer to the Payment Instructions below:-

PAYMENT - Pay through the eBay system using your preferred payment method.  In exceptional circumstances I may accept £, US$, € at current rates or a personal cheque drawn in £ on a UK registered Bank, please contact me first if you wish to pay this way.

Shipping/handling: UK and Europe: £2.49 for regular mail of up to 20 grams weight - normally about 10 banknotes in total,  (buyer’s risk, not recommended!) or £6.30 for registered/insured (Necessary for all items or groups of items with a value exceeding £30). Rest of World: £3.49 for regular mail of up to 20 grams weight - normally about 10 banknotes in total (buyer’s risk, not recommended) or £10.90 for registered mail (seller’s risk, necessary for all items or groups of items with a value exceeding £30). Multiple wins/items are batched and sent at no extra cost, unless weight is significantly higher, above 20 grams.

NB. Please do not pay until you receive my invoice, especially if you have won more than one item, as I always combine the postage packing and shipping costs, so that you save on postage. I do of course appreciate it if you pay quickly but I am sure you wouldn't want to be paying too much for postage. If you do overpay I will usually refund you through the eBay system, before I send your item or items.

A note about feedback

I do not wait for you to leave Feedback for me like some sellers do, so Transactions will receive positive feedback soon after payment is made. I strive to earn 100% perfect 'five-star' scores from you, my customer. The star scores are very important because eBay uses them to determine the visibility of my items in search results. So before you leave your Feedback for me, if anything about the transaction did not meet your expectations, please let me know and at least give me the chance to put things right, before leaving negative Feedback or contacting eBay.

Always contact me first before contacting eBay or opening a case, I will always help, I will block bidders who open cases without contacting me first!

PLEASE NOTE ALL ITEMS ARE NOW MAILED FROM MY CURRENT LOCATION IN ITALY, posted the same day that payment is received or the next working day after payment, if made at the weekend. When I am in the UK, I may post from there. Some deliveries may take longer than normal to arrive, this is not my fault, merely the result of the RECENT problems since March 2020, experienced within the International Postal System!

Although now, even though the International Postal system is almost back to normal again, there still can be the odd delay to some destinations.
