Hong Kong cinema legends Stephen Chow and Tsui Hark team up for the blockbuster fantasy comedy Journey to the West: The Demons Strike Back, the sequel to Chow's 2013 Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons. Released to massive box office during the 2017 Chinese New Year period, The Demons Strike Back marks Chow's first collaboration with Tsui who assumed directing reins for the film, while Chow served as writer and producer.

Packed with Chow's trademark dark nonsensical humor and Tsui's trademark special effects spectacle, the highly anticipated costume adventure stars Kris Wu (Mr. Six) as the monk Xuanzang while his impetuous magical disciples are played by Lin Gengxin (Sword Master) as Monkey King Sun Wukong, former basketball player Mengke Bateer (Bodyguards and Assassins) as Sha Wujing, and Yang Yiwei (The Taking of Tiger Mountain) as Zhu Bajie. Synopsis :

This is a sequel to the story of “Journey to the West - Conquering the Demons”. After killing Miss Duan in the last story, Monkey King is now tamed by Tang Sanzang and has become one of his disciples. Tang continues his journey to the West with Monkey King, Sandy and Pigsy. They encounter and flight with many demons during their treacherous journey. These demon battles enable them to grow and learn how to become a better person.
