A rare, signed poetry book by James H. Morgan, POEMS BY CANDLELIGHT AND THE FLARE OF A MATCH,1967 and stated First Edition, Vantage Press. Dust jacket has rips and tears, along with a ring on back cover but still in great condition. Blue cloth boards with a solid binding and is in very good condition. The inscription on front end page says "As Ever James H. Morgan, Cousin of Marie James" and inside back cover says "Merry Christmas! From Marie S. James, '75". 
"This touching volume was mostly written during WWII by the black poet from the small black suburb of St. Louis called Meacham Park which became a part of Kirkwood. Not 'great poetry' but his dialect poems are warm and sincere and his religious poems actually quite powerful."
