Novellae and in-depth discussions on Tractate Horayot, as well as responsa, from Rabbi Chaim Yosef David Azoulay (the Chid"a). Livorno, 1756. First edition.
The first work printed from among the many works by the Chid"a, known to have been written when he was only 17 years old. The Chid"a printed the sefer when he was in Livorno towards the end of the period of his first mission in Italy.
The Chid"a received approbations for the sefer from his teacher, Rabbi Yonah Navon, who encouraged him to commit his novellae to paper already in his youth, along with those by his father, Rabbi Yitzchak Zerachiah Azoulay, and by his father-in-law, Rabbi Nissim Berachah. Many additional approbations from sages of Jerusalem and Hebron; Rabbi Yehudah Ayash and others.
Sought-after sefer. With respect to its rarity, one can grasp it from Rabbi Betzalel Rangshburg's introduction to his sefer, Horah Gaver on Tractate Horiyot (Prague, 1802), in which he discusses Sefer Sha'ar Yosef and writes that he expended a huge amount of effort to obtain it, but he was unsuccessful. Refer to M. Benayahu as well, in his work HaChid"a p. 186, where he writes that the sefer became scarce already in the author's lifetime.

חידושים ופלפולים על מסכת הוריות, ושאלות ותשובות, מאת רבי חיים יוסף דוד אזולאי (החיד"א). ליוורנו, תקי"ז [1756]. מהדורה ראשונה.
החיבור הראשון שנדפס מתוך חיבוריו הרבים של רבינו החיד"א, וכפי הידוע הוא חיברו בהיותו כבן 17 שנים בלבד. החיד"א הדפיס את הספר בהיותו בליוורנו לקראת סיום שליחותו הראשונה באיטליה.
החיד"א קיבל הסכמות לספר מרבו רבי יונה נבון שעודדו להעלות על הכתב את חידושיו כבר בנערותו, מאביו רבי יצחק זרחיה אזולאי ומחמיו רבי נסים ברכה. מלבד הסכמות רבות נוספות ובהם מחכמי ירושלים, חכמי חברון, רבי יהודה עייאש ועוד.
ספר מבוקש. על נדירותו של הספר, ניתן להבין מדברי ההקדמה של רבי בצלאל רנגשבורג לספרו הורה גבר על מסכת הוריות (פראג, תקס"ב) שהוא שעסק הרבה במסכת זו מסכת שבה עוסק ספר שער יוסף, כתב שעשה מאמצים כבירים להשיג את הספר ולא עלה בידו, ראה גם מ.בניהו בספרו החיד"א עמ' קפו שכותב שהספר הפך ליקר המציאות כבר בחיי המחבר.

A large flat rate box for $93 ($60 to Canada is available as well and can fit up to 18 books, depending on size. Oversized books are more expensive to ship, please ask for shipping quote for multiple books in advance to prevent any misunderstandings. International postage costs are subject to USPS yearly rate increases.
RETURN CUSTOMERS: Return customers get 7% off every order, from the second shipment and on. This is not deducted automatically, so please request an invoice and we'll send one over asap.
