Upon the deathbed of his beautiful wife, the Blue Queen, the Blue King promises he would only marry someone more beautiful than her, and the only woman lovelier in the kingdom is their daughter, the Blue Princess. With the help of her wise godmother, the Fairy of the Lilac, the Blue Princess escapes to a nearby village wearing the foul skin of the king's prize donkey.
