"Up for sale is an incredible Mexican Muralist painting of David Alfaro Siqueiros. The painting depicts Siqueiros reviewing the Miners. In 1926, Siqueiros joined a Jalisco-wide union and made demands for better pay and working conditions to the company, which they chose to shut down the mine rather than capitulate. Siqueiros is depicted in the center standing on what would be a recurring theme, a tuft or outcropping of land. His back bent almost broken, his right hand shown to be giant holding a lit “bomb”. His left hand holding what appears to be a broken mural painter’s brush. The crowd looks on as they head to work. The figure in forefront wearing a miner’s cap and a pickax over his shoulder. This seems to be depicting the period after the Mexican government shut down Siqueiros Murals painters union in 1925 due to his communist references in his commissioned murals ordered by the government. The meaning seems to be “you have broken my back/art union but look I’m still strong and powerful see my army of workers”.

This painting has no damage, no restoration, no cleaning, and the canvas seems to be from the late 1930s-late 1940s and is not signed. We believe this may be Siqueiros’ work due to subject matter and the period of creation. There are similarities in the color pallet (pink army green purple white yellow) as well as the paint used may not be oil but possibly proxylin.

The size of this painting is approximately 35 by 38 inches (sight 25.5 by 29 inches)."
