Celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee took place throughout 1977 and we commemorated the occasion by issuing a Silver Jubilee crown. The obverse, featuring a design by Arnold Machin, bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II riding horseback and dressed in her uniform as the Colonel-in-Chief of the Grenadier Guards. The design was a tribute to the equestrian portrait used on the 1953 Coronation Crown, the first commemorative UK coin released during Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. The reverse features an ampulla and anointing spoon from the royal regalia surrounded by a floral border and surmounted by a crown.

Other major events that took place in 1977 include Elvis Presley’s passing, Concorde’s first commercial flight, and the release of Star Wars™ in cinemas. Annual Sets are must-haves for coin collectors or perfect to give as a gift for a milestone birthday or anniversary.
