For sale is an old oriental scale with its original carved red wooden elephant box. The dense wood box is formed as a kneeling elephant, about 8 inches long and 4 3/4 inches wide.  It rotates open on a metal pin and has a fixed red cord to use to tie it closed.  The sides are deeply carved and painted or stained in red and black.  The cavities for the instruments are crudely carved out of the interior.  The scale itself has two round brass pans suspended from an iron arm with a center pivoting handle with a pointer.  The pieces are connected with white thread.  There are no marks.

Condition on the scale is fairly good. The pieces are pushed a bit apart; the cord and pin on the case seem newer and may have been replaced at some point.  An interesting item.
