About Sapphire

Sapphire is a precious gemstone, a variety of the mineral corundum consisting of Aluminum Oxide Al2O3 with trace amount of Iron, Titanium, Chromium, Vanadium or Magnesium.

Blue Sapphire is one of the big three jewelry colored gemstones. Most valued Blue Sapphires are velvety blue to violetish blue. Blue Sapphire has Mohs hardness 9.0 marking it a hard gemstone to make jewelry. As a member of the corundum family, its crystal system is hexagonal (trigonal). Crystals commonly often barrel shape prisms with flat ends.
