Daniel Maitland is a jaded man of high society. However, when he keeps running into a woman who dresses all in gray, he starts to feel intrigued and excited again. When she thinks he's a famous jewelry thief, he doesn't correct her and, instead, uses this as an excuse to get to know her. Little did he know the sorts of adventures that would await him as a result.

Commentaries on line:

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It would make an awesome movie. Hmmm, who would I cast as 'Handsome Dan' (as he was known during his college years)? In fact, it was made into a movie back in 1924. It's time for a new one. This one will have sound and be in color!

An enjoyable, fast-paced mystery. Keeps you guessing all the way through!

And such a delightful cover...I got mine in an antique store

The novel was well written and characterizations were so well done that one feels that sense of disconnectedness at times due to self immersion in the plot. I highly recommend this and all other similar books, they are fun, and the style of writing should not be lost to current readers.
