P. F. Collier & Son —— a Crime Club Selection (©1941)
{Note: originally published by Doubleday Doran.}
CONDITION: No jacket, old price mark on front flyleaf, but generally I would rate this as GOOD to VERY GOOD.
Commentaries on line:
[From Kirkus]
Lieutenant Honneger bulldogs his way through the death of the socially prominent and wealthy Simeon Rade, some time after the death has been dismissed as natural. A very much younger wife and daughter involved in undercover romantic entanglements, as partner's confession of a past embezzlement, backstairs chicanery and gossip, supply plenty of conjecture. Aboveboard tactics for a substantial and well sustained tale.
[From Saturday Review, 1941]
Extra well-written and capably constructed tale with ample suspense and denouement that seems just a bit forced.
Verdict: Worthwhile.
