NEWFOUNDLAND 102 1911 12c RED BROWN KING EDWARD VII JOHN GUY VF MPH CV$100

Twelve cent, red brown, King Edward VII (King Edward VII died while the Guy series was being prepared) stamp from the John Guy issue of 1911, engraved, no watermark*, line perf. 14.2x14.2. Approximately 25% of original gum disturbed by previous hinging. Very good, fault-free example of this stamp. Stamp shown is a good representative of those that are available. If the stamp received fails to meet expectations, it may be returned for a replacement or full refund.

Postal authorities were not happy with the quality of the 1910 lithographed stamps and decided to re-issue the 6c, 8c, 9c, 12c and 15c values. MacDonald and Sons were contracted to re-work the original etched dies they made for the 1910 lithographed stamps. These dies were worked over (deepened) with a graving tool, de-burred and then used to produce the final multiple image engraving plates necessary to print the stamps. The print contractor was changed from Whitehead, Morris and Company (they did not have equipment to print engraved stamps) to A. Alexander and Sons Limited of London. Whitehead Morris and Company gummed and perforated all of the stamps for the 1910 and 1911 John Guy issue.

Intaglio printed on stout and crisp white wove paper with horizontal mesh, white (almost colorless) gum. The 1910 and 1911 stamps were produced to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the establishment at Cupers Cove (Cupids) in Conception Bay in 1610 of the second (after Jamestown in 1607) British "Plantation" in North America. Sponsored by the London and Bristol Company of England, the actual "planting" of the new colony was supervised by John Guy.

* E TOWGOOD FINE watermark has been reported on the 9c and 15c value in this issue (re. Newfoundland Specialized Stamp Catalogue by Walsh and Butt)

Images should provide all the information necessary to make a reasonably intelligent bid on this lot. However, if it doesn't live up to your expectations you are always welcome to return it for a full refund - NO QUESTIONS ASKED. My feedback speaks for itself. I am confident that a mutually satisfactory solution can be worked out to any problem that might develop. Please give me a chance to fix something that is not satisfactory to you before leaving negative feedback.

Although 3 and 4 star DSR scores may be considered "good" by just about any reasonable standard, they aren't as far as ebay is concerned. Anything but 5 ratings in a seller's DSR score may impact their ability to offer items for sale on ebay. Therefore, having an opportunity to earn your highest rating would be very much appreciated. Thank you for your consideration.
