This listing is for an 8x10" photo which has been personally signed by astronaut Barbara Morgan - one of the most inspiring astronauts in history. Morgan's career began as a schoolteacher. In 1985, she was selected as the backup "Teacher in Space" candidate, and underwent the same training as her fellow candidate, Christa McAuliffe. Barbara worked closely with the crew of STS-51L, only to watch them die when the Challenger Space Shuttle was destroyed on January 28, 1986. Morgan continued collaborating with NASA; but after the Teacher in Space program was cancelled and the entire space program was put on hold for the disaster investigation, she returned to her teaching career.

However, Morgan never gave up on NASA. And 12 years later, she was selected to join the astronaut program - not as a Teacher in Space, but as a fully-qualified Mission Specialist. After a further decade of training, Morgan finally reached space on STS-118, over 20 years after her initial selection.

This photo is an original vintage NASA lithograph from her original role on STS-51L. Overall, it's in good shape for a 40-year-old photo. However, it does have a light crease down the center, and some pinholes on the corners where it had been hung on a wall. I've included closeup photos of these. The winner will receive the exact items in the photos, so please refer to those for a closer look. Thank you for viewing this listing!
