- Uncirculated Proof -

The 1975 (76) Spanish 50 Pesetas coin is a stunning example of numismatic art, featuring the portrait of King Juan Carlos I on the obverse and his personal coat of arms on the reverse. Struck in uncirculated proof condition, this coin is a testament to the craftsmanship of the Royal Mint of Spain. With a mintage of only 400,000, it is not a common coin to find, making it a valuable addition to any collection.

History

In 1975, Spain was still reeling from the death of General Francisco Franco, who had ruled the country with an iron fist for nearly four decades. King Juan Carlos I, who had ascended to the throne in 1972, was determined to guide Spain towards democracy and modernization. This coin, bearing his likeness, symbolizes the transition from a fascist regime to a constitutional monarchy.

Design

The obverse features a regal portrait of King Juan Carlos I, facing right, surrounded by the inscription "JUAN CARLOS I REY DE ESPANA" (Juan Carlos I King of Spain). Below the portrait, the series date "1975" is displayed. Engraved by Manuel Marín Jimeno, the detail and intricacy of the design are truly remarkable.

🎨 Obverse

On the reverse, the personal coat of arms of King Juan Carlos I takes center stage, divided by the denomination "50" and flanked by two stars containing the dates "19" and "76." The inscription "PTAS" (Pesetas) appears above the shield, while the motto "UNA GRANDE LIBRE" (One, great and free) runs along the edge of the coin. Francisco Martínez Tornero was responsible for the elegant design of the reverse.

💰Condition

This 1975 Spanish 50 Pesetas coin is in uncirculated proof condition, meaning it has never been handled or circulated. Its original luster remains intact, giving it a mirror-like finish that accentuates the fine details of the design. A true gem for any collector, this coin is sure to impress even the most discerning eye.Rarity

With a mintage of 400,000, this coin is not particularly rare. However, its age, historical significance, and proof condition make it a sought-after item among collectors. As a result, it may command a higher price than its face value, especially among those interested in Spanish numismatics or royal memorabilia.

Conclusion

The 1975 Spanish 50 Pesetas coin is a unique piece of history that showcases the transformation of Spain during a pivotal moment in its past. Its uncirculated proof condition ensures that it will remain a treasured possession for years to come. For anyone seeking a meaningful addition to their collection, this coin is an excellent choice.

Photos are unaltered and descriptions are based on my opinion and without numerical grading unless a coin has been certified and graded by an eBay approved 3rd party grading company.

Please review photos and read my description before bidding, as my descriptions are not reason for refund or discounts.  It is your responsibility as the buyer for determining how you feel the coin might grade and then bidding appropriately.

I do my best to create a thorough and accurate description that offers you much more information about a coin than otherr sellers.  It is possible that I might have an error in my listing or maybe data that conflicts with yours.  I use multiple sources when creating a listing, but I am not responsible for minor historical inaccuracies, although I highly encourage you to reach out to me if you believe there is a mistake in my listing. I firmly believe that we all should learn from one another.

For coins valued under $20.00 that are raw (ungraded), I generally ship these via eBay Standard Envelope which uses the USPS Intelligent Mail Barcode tracking method.  Occassionally these items will miss a scan, and if that happens, please reach out to me about your coin.  This can lead to confusion with buyers that think an item has not shipped when in fact it has, but USPS did not scan it properly through their giant mail sorting machines.

Also, USPS employees ocassionally make mistakes regarding the cost of shipping these coins and they add postage due to an item.  Please let me know if this happens to you so I can notify eBay.  These rates are contractual and they are supposed to ship at special 1 ounce, 2 ounce, and 3 ounce rates.  I promise you that I have not made a mistake with these, but is usually some uninformed USPS worker so reach out to me and also...take a photo for me of the envelope so I can show eBay.

At an additional expense, you may request USPS Ground Advantage (Formerly USPS First Class Parcel), Priority Mail, or an overnight service if you desire and are willing to pay for it.  I do get discounts on these other services and I will only charge you exactly what I pay in situations like this.

If you desire some other shipping service not mentioned, please feel free to message me because I will try to use the service you desire as long as you are willing to pay for it and it is available in my area.  All services must have door to door tracking though or I will not ship through them and the services must integrate through the eBay selling platform.
