WELCOME TO BEANSANTIQUES

Offering this old circa late 1860's to 1880's fixed blade, bowie style, knife.  It was made by George Wostenholm & Son.

The particular mention of Washington Works indicates when the third son relocated production to the large and modern Washington Works.

The trademark of I-XL (I Excel) was granted to the third George Wostenhom in 1826.  By the 1850s, I*XL was the most popular brand of cutlery in the United States.

The overall length of the knife is 9 1/8th inches.  The blade alone measures 4.75 inches long.

Some staining on the blade and a little light pitting.  The handle has missing patterned design details.

The blade is tight in the handle, no looseness, however the brass finger guard wiggles.  We have not cleaned, polished or sharpened it.

A rare find!!
