The base of this piece specifically says:  "Globes are not meant for educational purposes but only decorative purpose."  I have never seen that on a globe before. But with that remark, you know that it's a pretty item, very decorative and would be great on any shelf, desk or counter.  There is no maker's mark on the globe that I could see.

Hello and welcome to my world!  I have always enjoyed having globes and various maps.  I don't know why.  Never really traveled that much.  You hear about different countries all of the time but it isn't until you place that country onto a globe that you get any inkling of where it is at. And when you try to date a globe using the variety of cheat sheets you can find on a internet search that you realize how much wars, economy and weather could change the look of the globe.  I find that fascinating.

Dating the globe:  The font on the globe is super tiny because it's a super tiny globe.  I started getting a headache using a high power magnifier for so long so I couldn't get an accurate reading.  But...in 1991 the USSR dissolved so I know this globe is after 1991 because there is no USSR on it.  This globe has the Congo. Dem. Repub of .. instead of Zaire, so it's after 1997. Sorry but this is the best I can do on the date.
Condition:  The globe looks pretty nice except: it could use a cleaning.  I don't clean these vintage items anymore because when I was brand new at this I ruined a very expensive piece trying to spiff it up. So...the dirt and dust is FREE. No charge at all. It does appear to have some marks on it, I think that could be fixed with some TLC.

Info on Vintagesellingvintage listings:

  • With the rule that anything listed as a fixed priced item will automatically be relisted after 30 days, I'm having a difficult time with the fees.  On lower priced items, it does not pay to relist it every 30 days on its own and be charged each time.  Therefore, if no action has happened by the final day or two by potential buyers, I will be ending the listing. So, please make sure to pick this up if you want it as it may otherwise disappear on you
  • Do make sure to check out my other listings, both active and unsold.  If you go to any active item and click on the completed marker on the left, all of my closed listings will show up.  Just let me know the item number and I will relist it for your purchase.  Again, thank you for your interest in VintageSellingVintage feedback over 1900 and VSV-Trading-Cards feedback over 10,500 (check out both stores)
  • Condition is so often in the eyes of the beholder, I can believe that something is in terrible condition and you can think it's average. Please see all pictures as they are part of the description and let you make a more informed decision of the condition by your standards and not mine. This is a vintage piece and therefore very old. I will do my best to keep it in the excellent used condition it is in currently. However, I cannot say the same for my shippers. Please let me know if you would like to insure this item. If your buy(s) exceeds $100, I do require insurance.
  • The cost for shipping listed is only for continental United States. Please write for cost to Alaska, Hawaii or U.S. Territories. Thank you.
