EXQUISITE AFRICAN TRIBAL MARK
Presenting a magnificent vintage hand carved wooden African tribal mask crafted by the Tikar tribe of the Cameroon region.
This authentically vintage example has been masterfully carved from one piece of solid timber. The simplified facial features are detailed with inlaid panels of bronze which has developed a pleasing patina that only time can bring. Vintage coins and inlaid shells, both symbols of wealth and prosperity, perfectly balance the design creating an aesthetically pleasing and powerfully symbolic piece which is a delight to behold.
SIZE: This stunning mask measures 335mms tall x 210mms wide and 140mms in depth.
WEIGHT: This piece weighs 1.270 kgs unpackaged.
CONDITION: This mask is presented in good vintage condition and displays pleasing signs of age. There is some loss to the applied material in which the coins, shells and bronze are embedded most noticeably to the forehead along with age related drying cracks to the same medium which has allowed the inlaid metal detail upon the forehead and left eye to slightly lift. There is also a small drying crack to the timber on the top reverse side of the mask. More recently attached hooks and hanging cord remain affixed to the back. This fine example still remains in good stable condition and presents magnificently.
