Cymbidium Seedling (Pink) growing in a 100mm pot. It is growing in a mix of coconut coir, perlite and rock. This plant is about 18 months from flowering size.

This seedling is a hybrid of Valley Olympic 'Lachie' and Spring Flame 'Blushing'. Both of these cymbidiums have large soft pink show standard flowers, with lots of flowers per spike. This orchid should flower easily when mature.

Cymbidiums need bright light, but protection from hot afternoon sun. Cymbidiums are cool growers and prefer temperatures above 7 degrees Celsius at night, and above around 18 degrees Celsius in the day is ideal. Temperatures of 24 to 35 are good in summer. Protect from frosty nights. Night temperatures need to get down to 10 - 15 degrees Celsius in summer to autumn to initiate flower spikes growing.

Humidity is best kept around 40 - 60%, watering needs are higher in summer and spring due to active growth so keep soil mix moist. Use high nitrogen fertilizer in spring and summer every week to two weeks. In autumn use a blossom booster fertiliser to boost spike growth, use every week to two weeks. In winter use nitrogen fertilizer once a month. Water less in winter, about once a week.

Re-pot next spring into a 6 inch pot, then into a 7 inch pot the following spring. Pictures shown are the flowers of the parent plants.
