A superb and rare photo, made from what we believe is the original negative, of the great Dario Ambrosini from Italy on the magnificent Benelli 250cc d.o.h.c. single during the 1950 250cc Lightweight TT on the Isle of Man. On the last lap he set a lap record of 27 minutes and 59 seconds, good for an average speed of 80.91 mph (130.21 km/h)! He would win the race and would continue to win the 250cc World Championship that year on the photographed Benelli!

Ambrosini won in 1950 every round of the World Championship with the exception of the Ulster Grand Prix, in which he finished 2nd. The Italian brand also won the World Championship for Constructors in the 250cc class in 1950. It is a great image of Dario Ambrosini and the magnificent Benelli 250 Bialbero Grand Prix single, which was a pre war design, but a very successful one. Ted Mellors had already driven it to victory in the 1939 Lightweight T.T. on the IOM. In 1950 Ambrosini did the same. The Benelli had a vertical 248.8cc single cylinder engine, with a bore and stroke of 70 x 64.8 mm. The two double overhead camshafts were gear driven. The gearbox had four speeds The chassis was conventional, brazed up, and featured a girder type front fork and plunger rear suspension. The (covered) flywheel was located outside the engine casings, making it a stiff and compact, engine.
