DESCRIPTION

Two volumes.

Written by "Sapper" the pen name of Herman Cyril McNeile, a British soldier and author. As serving officers in the British Army were not permitted to publish works under their own names, he was given the name "Sapper" by Lord Northcliffe, owner of the Daily Mail.

This set includes:

Bull-Dog Drummond, c1930.

Undated. Originally published, 1920. Following the exciting excursions of ex-British Army Captain Hugh "Bulldog" Drummond as he places an advertisements in the Times stating his desire for an adventure.

The Return of Bull-Dog Drummond, 1934.

Fourth impression. Originally published, 1932. Another adventure featuring Hugh Drummond, Phyllis Drummond, Inspector McIver, and Irma Peterson.


CONDITION

In the original full red cloth binding. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and minor bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine and the odd mark to the board. Original unclipped dust wrapper of Bull-Dog Drummond is worn with loss to the head and tail of the spine and the bottom of the boards. Chipping to the extremities and the odd mark to the board. Original unclipped dust wrapper of The Return of Bull-Dog Drummond is smart with light chipping resulting in minor loss to the extremities, particularly the head and tail of the spine. A few small closed tears and the odd mark to the board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot. Age toning to the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription and bookseller's label to the front endpaper of The Return of Bull-Dog Drummond. Bookseller's label to the front pastedown of Bull-Dog Drummond.
