Artists and Engravers: Made by an anonymous engraver after 'Jacques-Nicolas Bellin'. Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772) was one of the most important cartographers of the 18th century. With a career spanning some 50 years, Bellin is best understood as geographe de cabinet and transitional mapmaker spanning the gap between 18th and early 19th century cartographic styles. His long career as Hydrographer and Ingénieur Hydrographe at the French Dépôt des cartes et plans de la Marine resulted in hundreds of high quality nautical charts of practically everywhere in the world.

Subject: Antique print, titled: 'Carte Reduite des Isles Britanniques troisieme Feuille, Partie Meridionale d'Ecosse […].' - A sea chart/map of Southern Scotland. The area depicted spans from Newcastle in the South to ca. Inverness and Isle of Skye in the North. A few depth soundings along the Eastern coast. This includes Isle of Arran, Islay, Isle of Mull, Skye, Elgin and Aberdeen.
Condition: Very good, given age. Original middle fold, as issued. Dampstained in the lower left margin and image corners. A stain in the left edge of the image (result of an ink stamp on the rear). A crease in the lower margin (extending a little into image area). Some scattered small stains in margins. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
