Soviet Order of Maternal Glory, 1st class, #386912.

 

 This is GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL Soviet decoration made at the USSR Mint and officially issued by the Soviet government, not a recent copy!

 

This is a beautiful, extremely well-made award. The medallion is in SOLID STERLING SILVER, gold-plating (on the scrolls at the bottom), and high quality “hot-baked” enamels. The suspension device is made in gilded brass and enamels. The little star in the center is a separate part attached by a rivet. The total weight of the silver medallion alone (not counting the suspension and connecting link) is 20.8 grams – over 2/3 of a Troy ounce! The medallion measures 41.0 mm tall including the eyelet (not including the suspension and connecting link), 29.4 mm wide. The individual serial number 386912 is engraved on the reverse, under the stamped mint mark.

 

This decoration was the highest of the three classes of the Soviet Order of Maternal Glory. It was bestowed upon women who gave birth to and reared no less than nine children.

 

The medal is in GREAT CONDITION.  The enamel on both the pendant and suspension device is practically perfect and shows magnificent luster, almost completely free of wear visible to the naked eye. There are a couple of minuscule surface flakes at the bottom of the suspension, but they are very difficult to notice without a magnifying glass. The enamel everywhere on this piece is completely original: there are no repairs of any kind. The details of the mother and child on the medallion are perfect and beautifully crisp. The serial number is original and unaltered. The gilt finish is bright. The pin attachment is fully functional.
