This listing is for a PCGS MS62 1940-E 10 Pfennig Coin, minted in Germany, Third Reich J.371

This was the first year of production of these coins. They replaced the previous bronze/aluminum issue as bronze needed to be redirected to the war effort.

This mintmark designates production in the Muldenhutten mint, which produced 34,350,000 in 1940. In comparison, over 212 million were produced in Berlin in the same year.

These zinc coins are hard to find in mint condition. As an emergency issue they were not designed for long term circulation and the zinc used was often not of the highest quality.
