Pair Gilt Bronze Wall Double Sconces Antique Louis XVI Style Lighting Gilded

Description and Item Information
Up for sale is this pair of beautiful antique gilt bronze wall sconces, in the Louis XVI style. Please excuse any glare in the photos. The sconces are bronze with a slightly darkened gold finish. Each sconce has two cups. These have classical motifs such as swags and acanthus leaves. These seem to have been originally used for candles (there is some wax residue inside the cups) with some modern modifications for use with electric lighting; there are no electric sockets or wires. Please see the Condition section below. Each sconce measures approximately 16 inches by 9 5/8 inches by 5 3/8 inches. Unpacked, the set weighs 7 pounds 12.3 ounces. These would be a lovely addition to a Victorian decor.

Identification
The origin of the sconces is unknown. They were acquired from the estate of a collector of high end antiques. They are antique, possibly from the late 19th century. There are no markings on the sconces.

Condition
These look very good overall as shown and as found. They have minor finish wear with some spotting and darkening. These seem to have been originally used for candles with some modern modifications so they could be used as electric lighting; there are no wires or electric sockets. On the backs of the sconces, near the bottoms, there are shallow channels cut into the bronze, likely for positioning of wires. Inside each cup, there is a brass nut with a hole in it; the holes lead into the curved arms and out to the backs. I have not tested the holes with wires to see if they go all the way through, but my assumption is that the holes in the cups go through the arms and out the back sides. Each sconce has some modern screws on its back side. The bronze components are held together with screws and some need to tightening. On the backs there are some areas where the bronze is not smooth, from casting. Please review the description and photos, and ask any questions prior to bidding or buying.
