A lovely, easy to grow orchid, a hybrid of two bulbophyllum species: rothschildianum and fascinator. The orchid will grow into a mass of oval green bulbs with green leaves atop the bulbs. The bulbs grow branching out on rhizomes from older bulbs.

The flowers are a stunning red-purple very much like the red-velvet cake colour, which is probably how this one got its name. It has very interesting flowers with furry-like top petals, lots of stripes and a tongue-like movable lip. Usually flowers in summer.

Bulbophyllum prefer moist growing conditions with good air movement, warm to cool growing conditions, no frost though. They need dilute fertiliser regularly, to boost growth. Best watered every second day as a guide, to fulfill water needs and help the plant grow well. Needs a protected spot from the sun, intermediate to bright indirect light.
