1993 Fender Custom Shop Schultz-O-Caster

Quilted Maple Body

Electric Guitar

Made in USA

Includes: Guitar, COA (Certificate Of Authenticity), 2 Tremolo Springs, 2 Tarnished Strap Lock Buttons, 2 Allen Wrenches, Cable, Polish Cloth & Fender Custom Shop Case.

I purchased this guitar from the owner of my local music store in Honolulu. He purchased this guitar brand new from the factory for himself. This is an extremely rare guitar because they only made 29 of them and this is #22! Handcrafted by Fender’s Custom Shop, this guitar is of very high quality and is in excellent condition. The previous owner had kept it in his collection and I added it right to my collection also without playing it. This guitar has a little bit of playwear from letting my luthier provide a setup then play it. There are normal scratches on the backplate and body (where there is usually is a pickguard). Overall this solid 1-piece maple body has lots of flame and quilt in it and it has no dents, nicks or notable dings that we can see anywhere. There is light tarnishing on the bridge and neck plate. The guitar also has a beautiful birdseye maple neck and a beautiful mother-of-pearl tree of life inlay on the fretboard. There are Fender Lace Sensor pickups, Sperzel tuners, and a 5-way pickup selector.

All electronics check out.

The Fender Custom Shop case is in excellent condition. All hardware and feet are intact and working.

A Fender Custom Shop instrument is crafted rather than built. And since 1987 the talented craftsmen at Fender's Custom Shop in Corona, California, have been handcrafting guitars of immeasurable sound, style and quality for just such players. Only the most talented electric guitar luthiers, such as John Cruz and Greg Fessler, are selected to create these fine instruments. And the vast majority of each instrument is created in-house at the Custom Shop. Even the pickups are painstakingly handwound, using much of the same materials and equipment utilized in Fender's early days. If you want a dead-on re-creation of a classic era guitar, or are on the lookout for a limited run with exotic tonewoods, the Fender Custom Shop will deliver.

"In 1993, Fender’s Board Chairman and CEO William “Bill” Schulz challenged the Fender Custom Shop to design and build a limited edition, investment-grade Stratocaster that would exemplify the innovation, creativity, craftsmanship and high-quality capabilities of that recently founded facility.  Only 29 of these instruments were made and they were to be used by Fender salesmen and distributors as Custom Shop samples.

The resulting design, created by Master Builder J.W. Black, far exceeded Bill Schultz’s expectations and quickly set the standard for Custom Shop offerings.  When finally made available for sale, these 29 collector-grade instruments immediately disappeared from the marketplace.

This series was very ground-breaking for Fender. This is the first Custom Shop guitar to feature a one-piece figured maple body in addition to a wonderful-looking chocolate sunburst finish and a vine inlay on the fretboard. This guitar is an amazing example of early Fender Custom Shop history and is definitely an investment-grade instrument.

Although the original name reflected its inlaid fingerboard design, this model became better known as the “Schultz-O-Caster” or  “Schultzcaster” in honor of the man who most people credit with saving the iconic Fender brand from near demise under CBS and who had commissioned it’s creation."
