Chi, a kitten, lives with her loving mother and two siblings as a house cat. However, Chi, who is very curious, looks away during a walk and gets separated from her mother and her siblings. Yohhei, the eldest son of the Yamada family and a kindergartener, finds Chi lying in the park and brings him home. The Yamada family and Chi begin a happy life together, but the Yamada family, who live in an apartment where pets are not allowed, desperately try to hide Chi's existence. One incident leads to Chi being taken in by a distant family, but the normally mild-mannered Yohhei vehemently opposes this and runs away from home with Chi in his arms. The parents try to persuade their son to move out, and at this time, they happen to see an advertisement for a pet-friendly apartment and decide to move in. In the new house they choose for Chi, the family begins a new life together.
