For sale - WW1 & 2 British Army group of 5 to G. Davies, who was a commissioned Territorial Officer, previously serving during the Great War in the Welsh Regiment, being wounded in action in the 'advance to victory' in 1918.

British War and Victory Medals, named 4905 CPL.G.DAVIES. WELSH R.; Defence Medal & War Medal un named as issued: Efficiency Decoration (Queen Elizabeth II version), clasp TERRITORIAL, 1954 engraved on rear. Court mounted as worn, comes with copies medal index card, medal roll & service papers (Burnt).

George Davies. Born 1898 (+ - 1 year), lived in and possibly born at Nantyglo. A village in the ancient parish of Aberystruth and county of Monmouth Wales. Occupation given: Steelworker. Enlisted 27/5/1916 “Duration of war” at Cardiff. To Army Reserve 28/5/1916. Mobilised 15/2/1917.

Posted 3rd Battalion Welch Regiment until embarked 24/3/1918 with 19th, landed France 25/3/1918 rank of Corporal. Posted to the 9th RWF 30/3/1918 & joined battalion 2/4/1918. 30/9/1918 Gunshot wound to the head and right eye near Richebourg St. Vaast. During the 100 days advance to Victory.

The 9th Battalion Royal Welch Fusiliers: Formed at Wrexham on 9 September 1914 as part of K2 and came under orders of 58th Brigade, 19th (Western) Division. Landed at Boulogne 19 July 1915. George would have been present at the following battles: 9-29 April 1918, Battles of the Lys. The third German offensive Operation Klein-George (Georgette) 27 May – 6 June 1918, Battle of the Aisne, 1918. Division virtually destroyed opposing Operation Bluecher.

30/9/1918 Gunshot wound to the head and right eye near Richebourg St. Vaast. During the 100 days advance to victory. A and D Coys under a light barrage took part in an operation and successfully advanced the line taking 10 prisoners and one machine gun. Our casualties were 3 Officers wounded (1 of whom died of wounds) 11 Other ranks killed and 38 wounded. Evacuated by the 57th Field Ambulance - 32 casualty clearing station- 13th General Hospital- 83rd General Hospital- England.

Posted to 3rd RWF 2/5/19 recovering from his wounds & discharged to Class 'Z' Reserve 8/11/19. Pension GSW head 50% disability 1919.
