For sale is a U.S.S. McKEE tally band 97cm length. Note the small marks next to the title. Obsolete, not been worn since 1941.

There have been 4 ships named U.S.S. McKEE, 1898 - 1912 (Torpedo boat), 1917 - 22 (Destroyer), 1942 - 46 (Destroyer) and 1980 - 99 (Submarine tender).

This tally band is believed to be either WW1 or possibly pre WW1.

The ship’s names were worn on the caps until 1941 when regulations called for a "U.S. Navy" and "U.S. Naval Reserve" inscriptions. The removal of ships names came about, in part, due to the expense and inconvenience of changing cap ribbons and the information as to the location and movement of a ship which was undesirable in the time of war.
