These are NOT generic photos - you're looking at the actual rocks you will receive when ordering! And all orders are mailed out within one business day at no extra cost.!

This listing is for two red / reddish-brown rocks that are close enough in size to fall into the "bookend" category! Each one measures roughly 5½"-5½" on its longest axis and stands close to 5¾" tall. Each offers some flat areas along with some interesting cracks, crevices, and depressions. You'll also see pockmarks in a variety of shapes and sizes. Also known as "scoria" or "cinder", they were hand-picked directly from the Springerville Volcanic Field, near the White Mountains of east-central Arizona.

Those pockmarks are scoria's most recognizable feature. When they were expelled from volcanoes that were active here over a half million years ago, hot gases were captured within the molten lava and trapped as it cooled, leaving thousands of tiny "pores" within the rock itself. The red color is the result of its iron content oxidizing during eruption.

They would be ideal for the following uses:

• In aquariums. Set them out a bit from a corner to create a safe space for smaller fish, or combine them with other rocks to create an underground scene. Scoria lava rocks are extremely lightweight and reduce the risk of damaging your tanks. They offer additional benefits ensuring the health of your aquarium, too. IMPORTANT: These rocks are shipped in a natural state and need to be prepared before introducing them into your aquarium.

• Lava rocks can create a beautiful setting in your terrarium or bonsai tree arrangements. Juxtapose these rocks to larger plants to create a visual offset, for example. (Please see our other listings if you’re looking for something in a different size or shape. Each listing is unique.)

Spokesmodel Woody, and the rest of us here at Arizona Lava Rocks, don't take you for granite! Our listings don't start out in a pile in some yard! Each rock is individually gathered. They are picked off the ground because something about them catches our eye. Again, this listing is for the specific rocks you see in the accompanying photos. Our inventory is constantly changing - please check out our other listings.
