Gray Manufacturing Company in Hartford, CT, first produced this machine in 1945/46 and continued production until 1976!! One of their machines captured the sounds of JKF's assassination in 1963!! The Gray Audograph was a dictation machine format that recorded sound by pressing grooves into soft vinyl discs!! The Audograph recorded on thin vinyl discs of 15cm diameter, recording from the inside to the outside, the opposite of conventional record players!! .Unlike conventional records, the disc was driven by a surface-mounted wheel. This meant that its recording and playback speed decreased toward the edge of the disc, to keep a more constant linear velocity and to improve playing time,[3] which was ten minutes!! I do not have the operating manual so I did not attempt to use it BUT it does power up and the power cord is still flexible and in EXCELLENT condition!! All the knobs and levers work and there is a little oxidation on the microphone connector and socket due to age BUT it is not an issue as far as cleaning them off!! The coating on the microphone cord is cracking and peeling but the inner cord still is flexible and I am guessing operational!! The case is solid with the only serious wear on the bottom!! Included are the following accessories: one disc that has been recorded on with its envelope and cardboard liner; one UNUSED disc also with an envelope and liner; one unused cardboard liner with a crease; SIX envelopes with liners BUT NO DISCS that are UNUSED but with some soiling; FOUR recording strips that go on the machine as well as one that is on the machine as shown!! This is a fairly RARE machine in operational condition apparently, although UNTESTED, so it is SOLD AS IS for parts or restoration!! I am estimating a shipping weight of 22 pounds!! NOTE: Quoted shipping charges are based on the farthest zone from me, so if you live in closer proximity to Greensboro, NC, the cost will go down!! I refund overcharges less a small packing & handling fee, so even if you pay the quoted charge you will not be overcharged!! BUT PLEASE WAIT FOR INVOICING to maximize your potential refund as eBay now charges a final value fee on the shipping too!! Please see my many other electronic and antique listings and email me with any questions!!
