Soviet Army on the streets of Belgrade (October 1944) 1984 TASS

To the 40th anniversary of the Great Victory
The Soviet army, crushing Hitler's hordes, reached the borders of Yugoslavia in the fall of 1944. On the night of September 28, in accordance with the agreement between the National Committee for the Liberation of Yugoslavia and the government of the USSR, Soviet troops crossed the Yugoslav border and met with units of the People's Liberation Army of Yugoslavia and partisan detachments. This historic meeting of two fraternal armies, which throughout the long years of war selflessly fought against a common enemy, marked the beginning of their joint military operations.
