Description

Vintage Gobblins replica of a Middle Ages tapestry representing the departure of Christopher Columbus for his voyage sponsored by Queen Isabella of Portugal.
The scene represents the coat of arms under which the ship is about to sail with the motto above in a banner written in old French: "Si nables n a dessoubz les cieux, Je ne pourraye porter mieulx" which loosely translate into "There aren't more noble arms under the sky I could carry more proudly".  (The banner is missing the last two words for lack of space).
This motto is taken after the motto of the famous tapestry of "The Cerfs Volants" exposed in the Musee des Antiquites de Rouen, France.
The tapestry measures 30 inches long and 24 inches high. It has some applied loops to hold a rod
and a lining on the back.
