1965 SG Junior

A beautifully and naturally worn cherry SG Junior from a transitional period in Gibson production of the model, which was on the verge of major changes in the ensuing years. This example has the classic small pickguard and 1 5/8" nut width so associated with this year. A unique feature is that this is a wrap around tailpiece version, without the Maestro vibrato that is so often seen on this model and is so often bypassed or removed when setup.

The guitar is in great vintage condition, with plenty of the wear that has become so sought after and which usually indicates a quality Junior or Special. There is plenty of checking throughout the body, chips, dings, and a good amount of finish worn off the edges of the body and the bevels. There is a long scrape across the top running diagonally from the treble side bridge post to the bass side lower bout. The pickguard has the very tip broken off and missing at the lower horn as well as a crack around the screw at the treble side where the guard covers the neck joint. The headstock has plenty of dings and chips around the edges, with the face of the headstock veneer having a healthy amount of light scratches. The guitar has not had any major breaks and subsequent repairs on the headstock or neck joint, which is pretty amazing for an SG that has clearly seen a lot of action over its life.

The guitar has been refretted with a nice big fret size and sports a replaced nut, as well as having both pots and the jack replaced. The guitar setups and intonates beautifully.

The neck measurement checks in at .80" at the first fret to .97" at the twelfth fret, with a shape that is somewhere between a C & D profile. Nice light weight at 5 lbs 14oz. It is currently residing in a modern Gibson USA SG case, brown exterior with the fully red interior. Happy to provide additional pictures or answer any questions.
