VICTORIAN TRAINED THREE PIECE BUSTLE WEDDING GOWN, 1890s

This is an attractive Victorian wedding gown of the 1890s time period that a mid to upper class woman would wear. A regal light beige colored silk satin 3 piece bustled gown, bodice, skirt and petticoat. A deaccession from the Valentine  Museum in Richmond, Virginia and still retaining it sewn in inner Museum catalog numbered identification tag.

Hand stitched as well as machine sewn.

BODICE
The bodice is decorated with a fine toile accented with machine floral designs, around collar draping around neck edge and across the front opening. The bodice has front and back boned bodice lacing closure like a corset fastening into a tight fitting bodice with numerous bone baleen stays gracefully curving over the front and back of the skirt. The bodice is lined with brown  cotton and has 14 fabric covered baleen stays. The curved sleeves accented with a gathered puff at shoulders tapering downward to a lace cuff. Adorned with metallic with beads trim.

SKIRT
The very full skirt is plain with a decoration of fine lace with metallic and bead trim at hemline and a pleated lace dust ruffle at inner hemline. The skirt closes by metal hooks and loops at the back and gathers with long cartridge pleats in the center back opening creating fullness for a nice fall. The skirt is lined with a brown cotton. There is a cream colored silk petticoat with a gathered pleated hem.

CONDITION
The gown is in very good condition. The silk satin fabric is in stable condition with no signs of shattering except for around discolored underarm area. There is a small 5 inch area of detachment of toile lace trim on back neckline.  Some surface soiling on train edge as well as few small stains. The skirt is in very good condition. 
The silk satin petticoat is in very good condition.
The bodice has underarm discoloration stains, with shattering of silk satin, and is in very good condition.

None of these minor issues detracts from the elegance of this gown, which is in wonderful state of preservation for its age.
