A superb and rare photo of the famous BMW factory riders Auerbacker and Hahn seen in action with the factory BMW RS 500 R50/2 Rennsport sidecar racer.
The engine of this magnificent machine was developed out of the famous pre-war Kompressor BMW racer (with which Georg “Schorsch” Meier won the 1939 edition of the Isle of Man 500cc Senior TT), but it had to perform its duty without the Supercharger, as they were banned in international racing after World War II. The BMW RS Rennsport racers have an honorary place amongst the most famous racing machines of the Golden Era of Roadracing, the 1950’s. Thesedays the sidecar worldchampionship is known as the Superside world championship.
This is a very rare image, as it shows the 1971 BMW world factory racer while equipped with a sidecar. BMW would score several world championship in this class.
