Four cent olive green 'Caribou Hunting' stamp from the 'Cabot' / 'Jubilee' / 'Discovery of Newfoundland' issue of 1897 commemorating the 400th anniversary of the Discovery of Newfoundland by John Cabot and the diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria, engraved, no watermark, perf. 12.0x12.0. Printed by the American Bank Note Company of New York, on relatively heavy weight, white wove paper with horizontal mesh, white (almost colorless) gum. This very popular issue includes some of the finest engraved stamps ever produced, anywhere. Used with portion of a contemporary grid bar obliterator cancel. Some light staining at right and shallow paper thinning mentioned for the record. An attractive stamp none the less.
