This is pure speculation but here is my best guess!! This tumbler is from the Philippines and pre-dates WWII. It was crafted by a US soldier and sent home to his mother, "Mrs. Barker"!! The clothing of the boy in the scene suggests a Colonial American time period and the pencil drawing on the bamboo is evident in places next to the paint!! It is not signed but there is a typed tag on the bottom "Mrs. Barker"!! I believe that is the recipient and not the artist based upon the content of the painting which would be more likely for a teenaged "boy" soldier so far away from home!! It may even be as old as the time period of the Spanish-American War!! AND that is a story that no one can beat and to think that I thought of it from reading "Mulberry Street"!! Approx. 6.5" tall X 2.75" internal diameter!! Please see my many other art and antique listings and email me with any questions!!
