DESCRIPTION

The first collected edition.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, and three plates.

Collated, complete.

The collected works of the notable author John Evelyn.

This work comprises of several tracts by Evelyn and translations by him, such as 'Of Liberty and Servitude' translated out of the French, 'The Golden Book of St John', 'Fumifugium, 'A Character of England', 'Navigation and Commerce', and 'Education of Children'.

Evelyn was an important writer, gardener, and diarist of the seventeenth century. His extensive diary traces his life from 1640 to 1706, detailing the execution of Charles I, the rise of Oliver Cromwell, the Restoration, the last Great Plague of London, and the Great Fire of London.

CONDITION

In a full straight grain morocco binding. Externally, rubbed, mostly to the joints and extremities. Head of the spine is lifting with cracks to the head of the joints. Spine and extremities are faded. Minor bumping to the extremities. Light marks to the boards and spine. Crack to the tail of the rear joint. Hinges are starting but firm. Spots to the endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some scattered spots.
