DESCRIPTION

Thirty volumes of the Society for Northern Research Journal, the Saga-Book.

Established amidst the Victorian Viking revival in 1892, The Viking Society for Northern Research is a group dedicated to the study and promotion of the ancient culture of Scandinavia. The club was initially founded as a social and literary society for those from Orkney and Shetland, the club broadened its intake to those interested in Norseman. Although the group was mocked by the press, the society soon became better known for its scholarship than its more social origins.

Aside from a tear to the rear cover of the 1988 edition, the volumes from 1973 to 1988 have just some minor shelf wear, and some sunning to the spine of the 1974 and 1976 editions. The volumes published between 1961 and 1973 are a lightly bumped to the head of the spine. The majority of the volumes bound in yellow are missing a little wrap to either the head or tail of the spine, worst to the 1906 volume which is missing half a centimetre of wrap to the tail of the spine. The 1906 volume is also particularly grubby, and the 1914 edition is a little soiled to the front board. The rear hinge of the 1911 edition is tender, as the glue has failed to the top of the spine. internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean throughout.
