DESCRIPTION

The two volume second edition, fifth thousand, of the letters of Charles Dickens.

Edited by Dickens's eldest daughter, and sister in law, these two volumes present a wealth of the author's personal correspondences.

Volume I presents letters between 1833 and 1756, and volume II between 1857 and 1870. A third volume was later published.

With the bookplate of Michael Scott to the front pastedown and verso of front free endpaper of each volume, and the inscription of J.A. Rutter to a front blank.

Ink notations from a prior owner to rear blanks.


CONDITION

In half calf bindings, with cloth covered boards. Fading to back strips, and head of front board. Rubbing to calf of rear boards. Front joint of volume II starting, but firmly held. Bookplates to front pastedowns and versos of front free endpapers. Inscriptions to front blanks, with ink notations to rear blanks. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
