DESCRIPTION

The scarce first edition of this work.

Illustrated with a hand-coloured frontispiece presenting a facsimile of the Chartulary of Dunfermline, and with one further plate. Collated, complete.

Bound without half title.

In this work, Dalyell describes the history of Scottish kings from the eleventh to the fourteenth-centuries, with further details provided on the topic of Scottish abbeys and cathedrals, historical monuments and memorials, and the state of ancient Scottish customs.


CONDITION

In a half calf binding, with marbled paper covered boards. Rubbing to back strip head and tail, joints and board perimeters. Spine label detaching to perimeters. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Pages age toned due to paper type, with spotting throughout.
