German Antique Onionskin marbles are said to be made from 1850 to 1920, if the marble shows a pontil, then it is pre 1870.

This marble does have a pontil.  Given that these items were made to strike other hard glass marbles, it is common to see numerous chips or "flea bites" in the glass. This marble has a perfectly smooth surface. Being both very old and free from "flea bites" is exceedingly rare. There is one bursted bubble, perhaps a manufacturer imperfection, as shown in the last photo.

This is a large specimen. It measures 1 & 3/4” in diameter.

An onionskin marble is a handmade marble with strands of glass drawn out from the center, forming a lined pattern connecting the top and bottom of the entire body, like the paper skin on an onion.
